James C. Curry

KILMARNOCK—James Cleveland “JC” Curry of Kilmarnock died April 14, 2018, at Regional Memorial Hospital in Mechanicsville.

He was born May 26, 1929, to the late Marcus Alonzo Curry and Mary Elizabeth Gibson Curry.

A graduate of Julius Rosenwald High School in Reedville, JC was an independent commercial waterman.

He served 22 years on the Northumberland County Wetlands Board, District 3. He also served on the Department of Social Services board, 1980-89, as chairman 1987-89.

He participated in the Meals-on-Wheels program. A member of the Northumberland Booster Club, he also served on the “Chain Gang” during Northumberland High School home football games.

JC was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae (Hill); and daughter, Angela Diana.

He is survived by sons, Cleveland, Garry, Curtis and Christopher; daughters, Pixie and Janice; granddaughters Erika, Sherita, Janel, Nicole and Natalie; grandsons, Travis, Curtis, Michael and Andrews; three great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Thelma, Josephine, Carolyn, Margaret and Eldine; step-sister Wendy; and brothers, Carroll, Morgan, Bill and Floyd.

A funeral was held Friday, April 27, at Campbell Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment followed at Curry Cemetery, Good Luck Road, Kilmarnock.
