Jazz and blues on stage for ‘Raise the Roof’ July 14

Good Shot Judy and Bobby “Blackhat” Walters will perform from 1 to 6 p.m. July 14 at the fifth annual “Raise the Roof” Craft Beer Fest at Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.

The event will feature music, a dozen Virginia craft beers, barbecue, vegetarian fare and homemade ice cream, reported education director Robert Teagle.

Born out of the idea that jazz music didn’t have to be background music, Good Shot Judy was created in 2013 by brothers Brett and Jeff Cahoon. Band leader Brett says the group performs a dynamic mix of upbeat swing, mambo, cha-cha, rockabilly, calypso and even some rock music.

“We put on a highly entertaining show that anyone can enjoy, regardless of whether you’re a huge fan of jazz and swing or not,” said B. Cahoon.

Walters, a retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander with 27 years of distinguished service, is a nationally known recording artist, harmonica player, vocalist and songwriter who has been playing harp for over 40 years.

Walters has opened for blues legends B.B. King, Taj Mahal and Steady Rollin Bob Margolin. He brings together the finest blues musicians in Hampton Roads to perform classic, modern as well as original blues tunes that will keep your toes tappin’ and your hips shaking all night long.

Tickets are $45 per adult and $15 for those younger than 21. Ages 5 and younger will be admitted free.
