Joan H. Thomas

KILMARNOCK—Joan Headley Thomas of Fleets Bay, Kilmarnock, passed away on February 21, 2018. She was born on September 16, 1941, in Ottoman.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Marie Williams Headley and Henry Headley, formerly of Tappahannock, as well as her grandparents, Etta and Foster Williams of Senora.

Joan leaves behind her devoted husband, George E. “Sonny” Thomas, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage. She had two beloved children and their spouses, Patricia T. Lewis and her husband, Kevin, of Lancaster and Bruce E. Thomas and his wife, Robyn, of Tappahannock.

Joan dearly treasured her four grandchildren and they loved their Nanny very much. She had one granddaughter, Nikki Lewis Shrader of Charlottesville; three grandsons, Christopher Lewis of Reedville, Benjamin Thomas of Tappahannock and Jonathan Thomas of Sterling. She also had two precious great-grandchildren, McKenzie Thomas of Warsaw and Thomas Shrader of Charlottesville.

Also left to cherish Joan’s memory are her sisters and brother; Velma Wharton (Bobby) of Millers Tavern, Mae Loving of Howerton, Linda Prince (Tommy) of Howerton and Henry Headley Jr. (Valerie) of Richmond. Joan also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; as well as special friends and neighbors where she lived.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 23, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.
