HEATHSVILLE—John Joseph Petro Jr., 61, of Heathsville died December 4, 2025, after a short battle with heart disease.
He was predeceased by his father, John J. Petro, Sr.
He is survived by his loving mother, Gayle Thompson; and much-loved siblings, Robert L. Jones (Carol), Donna L. Norbutt, Cynthia L. Tiemann (Mike) and Andrea A. Boyles (Brion). He was a beloved uncle to Michelle, Matthew, Sarah, Allen, Remington, Cooper and Mason; and granduncle to Haley, Colt, Donovan, Lena and Aurelija.
John was a passionate person and it showed with all of his interests, from scuba diving in his 20s, to Civil War reenacting in his 40s, to pirating in his 50s. He loved his animals, fishing and passing that love to others. Having a rock band selection of guitars, amps, keyboards and drums, he loved his music.
John was loved by all and there wasn’t a person he wouldn’t help. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and they would enjoy it and think he was great. He will be sorely missed.
A visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Kilmarnock. Burial will take place at noon Friday, December 12, at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.
