TAPPAHANNOCK—John “Johnnie” Hinton, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 23, 2022, with his girls by his side.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Carroll and Katrine Hinton; and five brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Hinton; daughters, Patricia Hinton Bowler and Brenda Hinton Ball; granddaughter, Melissa Mancuso; sisters, Anna Lee Spence and Katrine Reynolds; and 20 nieces and nephews.
John was born and grew up in Miskimon, before moving to Baltimore, Md., to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard. While in Baltimore, John met and married the love of his life, Barbara Tuohy Hinton, to whom he was married for 69 years. They raised two daughters, Patricia and Brenda.
After leaving the service, John owned his own business and became a long-distance truck driver. For over 30 years he hauled thousands of loads worth of materials that helped create the infrastructure up and down the East Coast.
John loved telling stories, spending time with his family, and taking care of his immaculate lawn. He was a dependable and helpful friend and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. February 5 at Hopewell United Methodist Church where he was a lifelong member; interment will follow.
