REEDVILLE—Judith Carol “JC” Bean, 80, of Reedville returned to the Lord, gaining eternal peace and comfort on April 11, 2026, in Mechanicsville.
She was born on June 2, 1945, in Wilson, N.C., a daughter to the late Robert L. and Ava Mae Moore.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, J.C. had a long, notable and distinguished career as a civil servant, working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Forest Service, where she was named Ms. Forest Service.
She later spent 25 years as a public affairs officer and specialist for the Department of the Army. She was a writer for SOLDIERS Magazine, copy writer and editor at Soldiers Radio and Television, and eventually served as chief of the speakers bureau at the Pentagon, winning many awards for her work, including two Commander’s Awards for Civilian Service for excellence at her duties.
She also taught public speaking, receiving recognition from many organizations, associations and corporate firms, as well as from senior leaders in the Department of Defense.
She was caring and compassionate, always willing and ready to help others with eagerness when called upon. She greeted everyone with an affectionate smile, exuding warmth seldom matched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Gerald Moore; and sister, Janet Yvonne Zetlin.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, A. Wylie Bean III of Reedville; sons, A. Wylie Bean IV (Keana) of Greensboro, N.C., and Adam W. Bean (Julia) of Falls Church; five grandchildren, Griffith, Ethan, Eva, Madelyn and Colin; and four bonus-grandchildren, Jack, Brendan, Connor and Ryan; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kilmarnock. Interment will follow at Roseland Cemetery in Reedville.
