Juvenile faces felony charges related to fire at KVFD Carnival Grounds

KILMARNOCK—A fire that damaged a building and multiple rides belonging to the Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) Firemen’s Festival has been confirmed as arson.

According to Kilmarnock Town Police (KPD) Officer Bill Farrell, a juvenile has been charged with three felonies related to the May 31 fire at the KVFD Carnival Grounds, 200 Waverly Avenue, Kilmarnock. Because the suspect is a minor, his name is not being released.

Officer Farrell made the announcement at the June 17 meeting of the Kilmarnock Town Council.

The juvenile has been charged with burning or destroying a building or structure, entering a dwelling with intent to arson, and destruction of property.

The fire in the bingo stand damaged the building and destroyed two children’s rides which were stored inside. While investigating the fire, it was determined several other buildings on the property had been vandalized. Officer Farrell confirmed the same individual was involved in….
