Some 300 residents, business owners, stakeholders and local officials gathered Monday, June 24, at Compass Entertainment Complex as Sen. Mark Warner presented a check for $988,000 in federal funding towards the development of the 9.5-mile TriWay Trail. The recreational biking and walking trail will connect the towns of Kilmarnock, Irvington and White Stone. The gathering celebrated the first phase of the trail, a 1.7-mile leg from Harris Road to Compass Entertainment Complex. The development also has led to several new business initiatives, including Rappahannock Bicycle Company, Tackle Cove Outfitter, F.R.E.S.H Flex, Paddle On and Grow Northern Neck-Paddle-Yoga-Sound Healing. Some of these businesses were made possible through the support of a Virginia Tourism Grant through the Town of Kilmarnock. The first phase of the project should be completed this year, according to TriWay Trail board president Jimmy Carter. Photo by AnnGardner Eubank
