NAPLES, FL—Katherine Beattie Pickle died peacefully at her Naples, Florida, home December 10, 2020, with her children by her side.
Growing up in Varina and overcoming many obstacles and hardships, she raised three children, owned and successfully operated Varina Wood Products and later had a career in real estate.
She will be remembered for her zest for life and her love for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her homes in Naples and in Kilmarnock. She was an avid tennis player, loved to bowl, played bridge and mahjong. She lit up a room with her smile and grace and will be missed by many.
Katherine was a member of The Mathews County Women’s Club, The Mathews Historical Society, The Mathews Yacht Club, The Cricket Hill DAR Society, The Rappahannock Garden Club and Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club. Also, the Naples Republican Club, the Naples Philharmonic and Life Member of the Raleigh Tavern Society, Williamsburg, and The Piankitank Golf Club.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Harry Canfield Beattie III; her husband, Timothy L. Pickle III; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Davis Hamner; her five siblings, Susan Vaughan, Laurence Hamner, Julia Marks, Evelyn Clay and Elizabeth Hamner.
She is survived by her three children, Katherine Carter Abrahams Allen (Ferris), Harry Canfield Beattie IV (Samantha Rapp) and Margaret Beattie Hudnall (Chip); her four precious granddaughters, Emily Carter Abrahams, Era Katherine and Delaney Canfield Beattie and Elizabeth Spotswood Hudnall; five stepchildren; and many step-grandchildren, several nieces, great nieces and nephews and a very special cousin.
A family service will be held at Varina Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity.
