Katherine “Miss Kitty” C. Deagle

IRVINGTON—Katherine “Miss Kitty” Caudle Deagle, 94, peacefully passed into eternal rest on March 16, 2021, at her home, Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington.

She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, William Edward Deagle; parents, Reverend A.I. Caudle and Anne Bright Caudle; brother, Harold Caudle; sister-in-law, Myrtle Miller; and son-in-law, Dr. José A. Lengua.

Kitty was born on July 2, 1926, in Appomattox County and graduated from Appomattox High School. Her father, Reverend Arthur Ivey Caudle, was a much-loved Baptist minister serving at numerous churches around Virginia, including Zoar Baptist Church in Deltaville. It was during this pastorate that young Katherine met Edward Deagle, beginning their lifelong love and commitment of 70 years.

During World War II, Katherine was employed by the Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C. Upon Ed’s return from military service, childhood sweethearts Ed and Kitty were married.

Kitty was a loving mother and “Mi Mi” to her children and grandchildren, a life-long Christian, and devoted member of Zoar Baptist Church.

A special ‘thank you’ to the Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury Assisted Living staff for their love and outstanding care shown to “Miss Kitty” during her happy years there. She will be lovingly remembered by all that knew her kindness, bright smile and loving personality.

Kitty is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Lengua of Urbanna; grandchildren, Maria Lengua Johnson (R.D.) of Hartfield, Andrew Lengua (Kendra) of Glen Allen; great-grandchildren, Dale Johnson, Megan Gilstrap, Lucie Claire Johnson and Keagan Edward Lengua; brother-in-law, Virgil Miller of Deltaville; nephews, Robert Morrison of San Antonio, Texas, Bryan and Barry Miller of Deltaville and Bruce Miller of Richmond.

A graveside service will be held at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery, 17097 General Puller Highway, Deltaville, Virginia, 23043 at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, VA, 23061; or Zoar Baptist Church WMU – “Operation Christmas Child,” P.O. Box 1010, 17097 General Puller Highway, Deltaville, VA, 23043.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, VA is assisting the family. Please be advised that current state-mandated guidelines will apply to all in attendance, including social distancing and appropriate face coverings.
