Kilmarnock adopts $12 million budget; increases utility rates

KILMARNOCK—The Kilmarnock Town Council on Monday, June 26, adopted a fiscal year 2023-24 budget totaling $12,039,383.

The budget increased by nearly $4 million from last year’s $8,307,701 budget. The largest contributing factor is $5,364,148 designated for the wastewater treatment 2.0 project.

Council member Les Spivey made the motion to accept and adopt the budget as presented. Rebecca Nunn seconded the motion with Mike Bedell and Kylie Abbott also voting in favor, the motion passed 4-0. Mayor Shawn Donahue was absent with vice mayor Curtis Smith filling in for him. Council member Tom Watson was also absent.
