Kilmarnock awarded $4.9 million in federal funds for wastewater treatment improvements council makes funding adjustments

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine on Wednesday, November 1, announced $8,165,000 in federal funding to improve wastewater treatment in Kilmarnock and Clarksville. 

The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development division’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program, which provides funding for sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in rural areas.

Some $4,957,000 was awarded to Kilmarnock to modernize two wastewater treatment plants to the five-stage Bardenpho system, which is designed to more effectively remove nitrogen, phosphorus and other harmful materials, enhance the….
