Kilmarnock continues to enhance amenities at Town Centre Park

KILMARNOCK—With the coming of spring, the Kilmarnock Town Council on Monday, March 20, focused on Town Centre Park.

Economic development coordinator Sharon Philips and TriWay Trail promoter Jimmie Carter presented council a tourism grant opportunity to create an “outfitter hub.”

Philips described the Drive 2.0 Grant the town previously was awarded as a tourism grant totaling $10,000. The grant specified that half of the money be spent towards promotion and the other half on production development.

Philips suggested spending $5,000 towards constructing a gravel pad where outfitter hubs Paddle On and Windmill Watersports could offer kayak and paddle board rentals.

She described Windmill Watersports as a service that would focus mostly on providing guided tours while Paddle On would function primarily as a contactless means to rent equipment.

Ideally, the two outfitters would initially be considered for one to two seasons, and as the trail development progresses, other outfitters such as bike rentals or stroller rentals may be included….
