KILMARNOCK—Mayor Shawn Donahue is eager to connect with town residents and continue to promote civil engagement as he begins a four-year term.
Mayor Donahue has been making a name for himself in town since he first moved here several years ago. Coming from Northern Virginia, Donahue and his wife, Sandy, fell in love with the town’s charisma and charm as frequent visitors prior to moving here.
“My uncle Andy was a Crockett and was from Tangier Island. When we would travel down to Reedville from Northern Virginia to take the boat to Tangier, we fell in love with the area,” said Donahue.
After years of passing through, the Donahues purchased a weekend home 30 years ago on the Corrotoman. Not too long after, they made Kilmarnock their permanent residence.
Since his high school years, he’s had an interest in politics which carried on through adulthood, said Donahue. He served on town council for one term 12 years ago and served as the police commissioner….
