
Festival. Many “carnival” artifacts are on display at the Kilmarnock Museum through August, reported museum president Carroll Lee Ashburn.
The Kilmarnock Museum, 76 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host an exhibit recognizing the 90th anniversary of the Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department Firemen’s Festival through August.
The “carnival” began in 1935 behind the Rexall Drug Store and Fairfax Theatre on Main Street, reported Kilmarnock Museum president Carroll Lee Ashburn. Advertising promoted “Attend the Carnival, have a good time and spend a quarter for a good cause.” That year, the big prize was the winner’s choice of a Ford, Chevrolet or Plymouth.
Later the carnival moved to Irvington Road in the vicinity of the Tri-Star….
