King Carter Golf Club announces three upcoming public tournaments

Upcoming events at King Carter Golf Club, 480 Old Saint Johns Road, Irvington, will include three public tournaments.

Two will be open to youth golfers, reported head professional Chip Sullivan.

The King Carter Cup will be held July 21 through 22. A 36-hole, individual stroke play tournament, competition will offer net and gross divisions, said Sullivan. The entry fee is $30 for members and $50 for non-members plus a discounted cart/green fee.

On July 25, the club will host the first King Carter Junior Open for ages 6-17. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. July 23.There will be 9- and 18-hole, stroke play divisions by age groups for both boys and girls. Tee times will start at 1:30 p.m.

Prior to tournament play, there will be drive, chip and putt competitions, he said. Practice facilities will open at 11 a.m. with the drive, chip and putt contests starting at noon. The entry fee is $20 for nine-hole play and $30 for 18-hole play.

The club will hold its first Parent-Child Championship August 12. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. August 10.

The tournament is for two-player teams consisting of a parent and a child of any age, said Sullivan. Multiple teams are allowed in one family with the definition of a “parent” as mother, father, step-parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt or mentor. The committee has final approval of all teams. Play will be divided into adult-adult teams and adult-youth teams.

Practice areas and a buffet lunch will begin at noon. Competition will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start for all divisions. There will be an awards ceremony for the 9-hole division at 4 p.m. and an awards ceremony for the 18-hole divisions at 6 p.m.

Players will be assigned tees and divided into multiple flights by age and skill level based on the number of entries received, said Sullivan.

The entry fee is $50 per team plus a $16 cart fee for members and $50 per team plus $25 cart fee for non-members. The fee is $25 per team for additional teams within the same family.
