Kinsley Horn is changing her community—one bag at a time

Middlesex High School junior Kinsley Horn of White Stone is experiencing success with A Fresh Start–Hygiene & Confidence Initiative, a student-led service project she created to provide essential hygiene products to children who may not always have access to them at home.

With personal ties to Lancaster County and her school life rooted in Middlesex County, Horn wanted her project to serve students in both communities.

Her goal was ambitious: collect and assemble 1,200 hygiene bags for students in Lancaster and Middlesex counties. With the support of businesses, churches, organizations and individual donors, Horn not only reached that goal—she exceeded it.

For Horn, however, the project has never simply been about the number of bags distributed.

“I wanted students to have the basic things they need to feel clean, comfortable and confident when they walk into school,” Horn said. “Something as simple as having deodorant, toothpaste or soap shouldn’t be something a student has to worry about during the….
