Lady Devils get the jump on Tigers for volleyball wins

Lancaster improved to 3-2 overall last week with a three-game sweep of King & Queen in varsity volleyball.

The Lady Devils defeated the Tigers 25-9, 25-17 and 25-23 behind serving and defensive leader Rachel Woolard and the front line dominance of Shelby Rose and Sydney Price.

Woolard served for seven aces in the non-district match and had eight digs.

Rose put over five kills and Price had three kills and three blocks.

Grace Oren and Riley Molineaux had four aces each and Molineaux added five digs. Molineaux also led in the middle with 12 assists.

Blair Smith had five digs and Katherine Thomas had five assists.

Also up front, Leighten McCranie had three kills and two blocks and Madison Giese had three kills.

Lancaster will begin Northern Neck District play this week and will host Essex tonight, September 26. The Lady Devils will travel to Washington & Lee Tuesday, October 1.

Junior varsity

The JV Lady Devils also shut out King & Queen, 2-0, with wins of 25-12 and 25-16.

Lizzy Woolard had two kills and three aces to help lead LHS.

Logan Kemp put over six aces, Kayleigh Self had four and Rachel Taft two. Jocelyn Hasson sent over one untouched serve.

Self also had two kills in the match.

Lancaster also picked up a pair of wins over Middlesex and West Point to open the season.

LHS beat the Drifters, 2-1, and blanked the Chargers, 2-0.

Against West Point, Woolard had 13 aces, three kills and two blocks to lead the Lady Devils.

Taft had three aces, Kemp two and Emily Carlson one. Carlson added two kills and two blocks and Self had two kills.

Taft left in the middle with five assists and Kemp had three.

Woolard led at the net against Middlesex with six kills. Self and Carlson had two each and Kemp one.

Self also led the setters with six assists and Taft had four.

Behind the service line, Taft put over four aces, Carissa Davis three and Carlson two.

Carlson also got above the net for a block.
