Lady Devils open district softball season in a stew

Lancaster outhit Essex 11 to seven, had a run reversed on an interference call and a runner called out at the plate to lose to the Lady Trojans, 5-4, last Thursday in varsity softball.

The Lady Devils also lost to Rappahannock last Tuesday for an 0-2 start in Northern Neck District play.

Lauren Carson got the win for Essex, going seven innings with five strikeouts, one walk and 11 hits allowed. Rachel Taft went the distance for Lancaster. She gave up seven hits over six innings, struck out four with no walks.

Madison Giese, Riley Molineaux, Rachel Valdrighi and Taft had two hits each to lead Lancaster at the plate. Madison Davis and McKenzie Hathaway went 1-for-3 each with an RBI apiece. Molineaux was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Taft scored twice and Valdrighi and Giese once each.
