Lancaster (LHS) made the long trip to Sussex County last Friday where its season ended courtesy of a second-half surge by the Lady Cougars.
Top-ranked Surry (SHS) pulled away in the third quarter and doubled the Lady Devils’ for a 54-27 win in a Class 1 girls basketball quarterfinal.
The loss brought a successful Lancaster run to a close at 20-7 as the Region 1A runner-up and a state quarterfinalist.
“We played hard and hung with them for a half,” said LHS coach Joanne Webb-Fary. “But their pressure just wore us down. I’m really proud of the effort and the overall season.”
