Northumberland High School won a first-round Region 3A/B field hockey game, 3-0, over Fluvanna last week to advance to a second round game Monday. However, top-seeded Western Albemarle shut out NHS in the quarterfinal game, 8-0.
Northumberland was ranked eighth and Fluvanna, ninth.
The host Lady Indians scored their first goal and the game-winner from Chloey O’Bier 14 minutes into last week’s tournament game.
Northumberland added two second-half goals. The first came four minutes in when Aariana Hudson scored on a pass from Anna Jett. The final goal came seven minutes later when Emily Rice crossed the ball and found Gracie Hall on the back side of the goal box for the shot.
