Lana L. Falkenstein

Lana L. Falkenstein

DELTAVILLE—The lovely Mrs. Lana Lacks Falkenstein passed away suddenly Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the age of 80.

Lana was born in Richmond on June 18, 1943. She attended John Marshall High School and graduated from Oak Hill Academy. After receiving a cosmetology degree, she began a career as a full-time hairdresser.  In November 1978 she married her sweetheart, Hugh Falkenstein, and they began a new life together in Deltaville. They had been married 45 years.

She opened Hair Etc. in Kilmarnock in 1982 and had an abundance of faithful clients, stylists and friends. She later moved her shop to Deltaville and retired in 2015. Anyone that has ever been in one of her shops knows how vivacious she was and that she never turned down a good gossip story when told.

Lana was a fabulous cook and loved to entertain friends and family. She was very adventurous and loved to travel. She was always willing to do any fun thing the kids wanted to do. She also enjoyed her boat the We-Li II fishing and searching local beaches for sharks’ teeth. She was a member of the Richmond and Virginia Ski Club and enjoyed traveling and skiing with them at many resorts over the years.

She was an avid golfer and she and Hubie were founding members of the Piankatank River Golf Club. She enjoyed the camaraderie of playing tournaments, Thursday evening scrambles and golf trips with friends. She was a past member of the Windmill Point Yacht Club and a current member of the Middlesex Moose #2401, where she loved to play trivia and had date nights with Hubie most Fridays.

Lana was committed to her church family at Lower United Methodist Church and to volunteering. She also served on the missions committee that raised funds to rebuild homes for displaced families in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Lana is survived by her husband, Hugh C. Falkenstein; children, Patti Parsley (Brian), Janet Vaughan (Rick), and Mike Falkenstein; her siblings, Shirley Zimmerman (Byron) and Bennie Lacks (Linda); her grandchildren Alex Johnson (Neil), Jesse Grant, Jamie Vaughan (Johnathan), Collin Vaughan, Amanda Parsley (Randy) and Andrew Parsley (Staci). She adored all seven of her great-grandchildren so very much, Presley, Harrison, Henry (whom she never got to meet), Alyssa, Katelyn, Jordyn and Josie; as well as her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, Zoe, Ben, Chase, Jackson and Avery. Her longest and closest friend, Suzanne Ruark was most special.

Lana is proceeded in death by her parents, James and Lillian Lacks from Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Gloucester Humane Society to memorialize Lana’s love for animals is welcome and appreciated. Donations can be made at GMhumanesociety.org

A service to celebrate her life is planned at 1 p.m. Monday, December 18, at Lower Middlesex Methodist Church, 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield. A reception will immediately follow from 2-4 pm. at the Deltaville Community Association, 17147 General Puller Highway, Deltaville.

Lana led a full and fun life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, is assisting the family.
