Lancaster adopts $39.2 million budget, plus $30 million capital improvement plan

LANCASTER—With a month to spare, the Lancaster County supervisors on Thursday, May 25, unanimously adopted a $39,222,436 general fund budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year, effective July 1.

According to county administrator Don Gill, the spending guide includes increases in compensation for boards and commissions, $18,111,648 for public schools, and a $30,740,281 capital improvement budget. Gill noted $29 million of the capital improvement budget was already funded through the school construction bond ($24 million) and the EDA/Truist Bank for public access ($5 million).

In a related vote, the board unanimously appropriated the budget including a lump sum to the schools.

After a public hearing without comment, the board unanimously approved tax rates for calendar year 2023, which went unchanged. The rates include….
