LANCASTER—Looking for ways to attract businesses to the county, the Lancaster board of supervisors on November 19 took the first step in possibly joining a regional authority to develop business facilities.
Northern Neck Planning District Commission executive director Jerry Davis outlined the concept of a proposed Northern Neck Regional Industrial Facility Authority (RIFA), the results of a 2019 “statewide site characterization study” conducted by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP). The study “identified inventory of all available industrial sites, evaluated the sites and determined a tier of readiness,” said Davis.
The study found the Northern Neck has “very few sites and buildings,” but the VEDP “wants to work with localities…There's more to this story...
