Lancaster places sixth in regional wrestling tourney; O’Bier and Wilson win silver

Riverheads earned 10 gold medalists and scored 310.5 points to win the Region 1A/B wrestling tournament championship last Saturday at Cumberland High School.

Buffalo Gap scored 166 as the runner-up.

Alexis Deagle, the 106-pound champion, was selected as the Region Wrestler of the Year and Riverheads’ Scott Swats was named the coach of the year.

Lancaster, which placed sixth in team scoring with 115 points, will have eight wrestlers advance to the Class 1 tournament February 19 at Salem Civic Center. The top six wrestlers in each weight class in the region tournament qualified for the state championships.

Lancaster had two silver medalists in Austin O’Bier (106) and heavyweight Tate Wilmore. Wilmore lost in the final to….
