Lancaster supervisors set hearing on school budget

by Madison White Franks

LANCASTER—Following another round of budget talks last Tuesday, the Lancaster board of supervisors scheduled a public hearing on a proposed $16.3 school budget for fiscal year 2018-19. The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. April 11 at the County Administration Building, 8311 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster.

District 5 supervisor Robert Westbrook requested the board reach a consensus on an estimated instructional category expenditure totaling $11,836,825, an increase of $377,529. This would allow the schools to start recruiting new teachers for the 2018-19 school year.

However, District 1 supervisor Jack Larson said he was not comfortable with reaching a consensus due to the proposed increase.

District 3 supervisor Jason Bellows said he would rather hear the public’s opinion before making any kind of decision regarding the school budget…
