Lancaster wrestlers down Westmoreland; perform well in multi-school tournament

Lancaster High School (LHS) wrestlers opened the season with a win over Northern Neck District opponent Westmoreland last Wednesday, then went 2-2 at the Little Giant Classic in Waynesboro over the weekend.

The Red Devils beat the Eagles, 46-36, with veteran wrestler DJ Zeiler recording the only pin. Zeiler (144) took down his opponent in 24 seconds. Second-year wrestler AP Pollard (175) had a 9-0 major win in his match.

“Our two returning wrestlers had good matches,” said coach Craig Oren. “Our senior, DJ Zeiler, had the only pin and junior AP Pollard showed his progression from last year.”

Also recording wins were Jonathan Gaines (190), Ethan Parks (132), Reece Rhodes (285), Ewan Sc Scott (165), Hunter Sebra (150) and Trevor Sebra (126).

“This was a good match to have for our younger wrestlers to get their ‘nervousness’ out….
