Lecture to explore life and times of steamboat Capt. Hansford Bayton

The next Speaker Series lecture hosted by the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS) will be “Audacity and Courage in Uncertain Times: The Life of Hansford Bayton, Black Steamboat Captain and Northern Neck Entrepreneur,” presented by Dr. Julia Sullivan-Detheridge, Bayton’s great-granddaughter and biographer.

The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock, and virtually by Zoom. Admission for either format is $5 for the public and free for LVHS members. Doors will open at the Library at 6:30 p.m., reservations are strongly suggested….
