Lewisetta Marina on July 28 hosted the second Lewisetta Junior Angler Fishing Tournament, with 51 youth participating.
According to director Sarah Harman, participants ranged from ages 2-16. There were three age groups and the winner in each was the angler registering the most fish. A drawing was also held with one boy and one girl winning a new rod and reel.
“Thank you to my army of volunteers, who showed up to help with this event and our generous local businesses and friends,” said Harman. “Also a big thank you to Mark and Helen Scerbo for hosting this event at Lewisetta Marina. The old adage that ‘it takes a village’ was on full display, bringing together our community, children and families.”
Del. Margaret B. Ransone made a guest appearance and said, “this was an incredible fishing event for our youth and families. There was an outpouring of support from the community.
“We are so fortunate for the volunteers who hosted the tournament and for the Lewisetta Marina for encouraging families to get outside and enjoy all the wonderful resources the Northern Neck has to offer,” she added.
The five raffle winners were announced. RJ McDonald, won a Yeti 65 cooler; Doug Sydnor, Kinsale Charters fishing trip; Sonny Haynaer, Mystic Lady fishing trip; Elaine Scerbo, Stihl weedeater; and George and Donna Truslow, Backdraft gift certificate.
The tournament was sponsored by RW Sports, Allison’s Ace Hardware, At Home Printing, A Cut Above, Ed Rest, George and Donna Truslow, Mark and Helen Scerbo of Lewisetta Marina, Callao Supermarket and Flippin Yellow Truck.
