Lancaster sophomore Lexi VerMeer was the youngest player named to the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 1 All-State volleyball first team.

The all-state honors were released by VHSL communications director Mike McCall on December 9.
VerMeer, a 6’2” outside hitter, led Lancaster to the state semifinals with 412 kills, 47 blocks, 67 aces and 277 digs. She was both the Region 1A and Northern Neck District player of the year and joined eight seniors and one junior on the all-state first team. Lancaster went 22-6 this year and claimed the school’s first-ever state tournament quarterfinal win.
Middlesex, which finished as the state runner-up, had two players named to the state’s second team in sophomore Kinsley Horn and senior libero Carly Jessie.
Giles senior outside hitter Sophie Taylor earned her third straight Class 1 state player of the year award after leading Giles to a 3-0 win over Middlesex in the state championship. Taylor, who finished the season with 668 kills….
