Lancaster came in 26 strokes better than runner-up Northumberland on Tuesday, September 30, to be crowned the Region 1A golf champion at the Golden Eagle Golf Club.
In addition, Lancaster’s Tyler Brent won a two-hole playoff against teammate Isaac Hernandez as the gold medalist and regional golfer of the year. Both Brent and Hernandez shot an 80 with Hernandez as the silver medalist.
The Red Devils scored a team low 328 while Northumberland shot a 354, edging Rappahannock by a stroke to earn a berth, along with Lancaster, in the Class 1 state championships on October 13 at Hobbs Hole Golf Course in Tappahannock.
The two top region teams along with the three low golfers not on those teams advance to the state tournament. Also advancing are Gus Sanford of Rappahannock, Kai Evans of Middlesex and Brandon Hubbard of Mathews.
