LHS boys place seventh at Class 1 cross country meet

Lancaster High juniors Matthew Kane and Josh Woolard finished with all-state honors Saturday, November 11, at the Virginia High School League Class 1 cross country meet at Green Hill Park in Salem. 

Kane finished fifth out of 99 harriers with a time of 16:42.8 to lead the LHS boys team to a seventh-place finish among 12 teams. Woolard also had a top 10 finish, placing eighth on the 3.1-mile course with a time of 17:02.4. The Red Devils scored 166 points as a team. 

Parry McCluer repeated as the state champion with 61 points and brothers senior Kovyk Chandler and freshman Kebryl Chandler claimed the top two spots. Kovyk was the individual medalist, 15:54.4, and Kebryl the runner-up, 15:59.1.

Region A Mathews also had two all-state runners and scored a team low 79 points as the state runner-up. Altavista was third with 119 points. Junior Seth James of Mathews finished ninth, 17:06, and Gavin Dustin, 11th, 17:23.3. 

Middlesex High sophomore Gunner Marston placed 15th, 17:39.4. 

The top 15 runners in both the girls and boys races receive all-state medalist honors….
