LHS boys win region track trophy; girls place second

The Lancaster boys track and field team won seven events to score 139 points as the Region 1A champion and will send 14 to compete in the Class 1 state championships in Harrisonburg.

The Red Devils were 41 points better than runner-up Middlesex, which scored 98 points, at the regional meet Wednesday, May 24, at Charles City High School.   

Lancaster will send 14 boys to compete in 15 events at the state meet Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3, at James Madison University. Several will compete in multiple events.

The LHS girls team has qualified 12 for the state meet and scored 95 points as the runner-up in the regional meet. Lancaster’s girls were 6 points behind region champion Northampton with 101 points.

In the boys meet, West Point was third with 77 and Northumberland fourth with 76. There were 11 teams in both…..
