The Red Devils moved a step closer to the Region 1A tournament championship and had their sights set on a state berth last week with a mercy-rule 19-9 win over the Mathews Blue Devils in a quarterfinal game at Dream Fields.
Lancaster was scheduled to play the region’s top-seeded Essex in a semifinal May 30 in Tappahannock. A win in that game would put the Red Devils in the regional final and earn them a spot—win or lose—in the Class 1 tournament. A loss in the semifinals would end the season.
