LHS boys win third straight district track championship; girls place second

Lancaster scored 155 points to claim a third straight Northern Neck District boys track and field championship on Wednesday, May 15, in Tappahannock and junior distance runner Matthew Kane was awarded one of the two top trophies.

Northumberland was the team runner-up with 97 points; Rappahannock third, 42; host Essex fourth, 20; and Westmoreland fifth, 12.

The Rappahannock High girls team more than doubled runner-up Lancaster’s score to win the district trophy. The Raiders won six individual events to score 137 points. Lancaster scored 66. Northumberland was third with 60; Essex fourth, 45; and Westmoreland fifth, 22.

The LHS boys and girls teams were set to run at the Region 1A meet at Charles City on May 22. The Virginia High School League state championships are May 31-June 1 at James Madison University.
