There was a lot of celebrating in the Lancaster camp last Wednesday in Williamsburg.

Although LHS didn’t win the Region 1A boys or girls championships in cross country, the Devils were still high-fiving, hugging, hollering and jumping up and down. Lancaster’s girls team, led by individual medalist Hailey Smith, finished third and the boys team pulled off an upset as the runner-up. Both advance as teams to the Class 1 state cross country championships at Green Hill Park in Salem Saturday, November 16.

“It was up in the air for both the girls and the boys,” said LHS coach Joanne Webb-Fary. “They had solid races as a team so it worked out. Both races were definitely won by a team effort and not individuals.”

The top three teams in both races, along with the top five finishers not on the three teams, advance to this weekend’s state races.
