The Lancaster High School boys track and field team passed its first big test of the season, finishing as the runner-up to a Class 5 school at the Charles City Invitational on Friday, March 29. Runner and pole vaulter Matthew Kane was named most valuable boys athlete.
Kane won the 800 meter, 1:58, and the 1600 meter, 4:39.88. He also anchored the fourth place 4X400 meter relay team and cleared 10’ for second in the pole vault. He scored 30.25 of Lancaster’s 84.50 points.
L.C. Bird High School of Richmond won the 15-team boys meet with 121 points. Hanover was third, 78.5, and Mills Godwin, fourth, 56. Middlesex had the next best finish among Class 1 schools, placing fifth with 53 points.
