LHS varsity softball team returns with experience

There’s a new coach with a familiar face on the Lancaster High School varsity softball sideline this season.

Bruce Northern, who was a baseball assistant at LHS for one year before the COVID-19 shutdown, has returned to lead the Lady Devils varsity team.

Northern brings 33 years of baseball coaching experience and seven years of softball experience to the position. He coached a 19U travel softball team in North Carolina and various American Legion and travel baseball teams before coming back home to the Northern Neck in 2011. He assisted Welby Saunders and Scotty George with baseball in 2019 then went to Northumberland to coach baseball for a year.

“My hopes are high for this season,” said Northern. “Up to this point, I’m extremely pleased with the girls….
