LHS varsity upsets Westmoreland, 14-12

The Lancaster defense kept Westmoreland out of the end zone in the fourth quarter Monday night as the Red Devils held on to upset the Eagles 14-12 in varsity football. 

They broke an 11-year losing streak for Lancaster to the Montross team and spoiled the WHS homecoming. 

The Devils are now ranked second in Region 1A, according to a release by the Virginia High School League this week. They lag behind top-ranked Essex, which Lancaster will host on October 27. Lancaster will play Rappahannock in Warsaw tomorrow, October 20.

The LHS-WHS match-up was originally scheduled for Saturday, October 14, but was postponed because of rain, forcing LHS to play two games in five days. 

Daveon Smith had a hand in one of Lancaster’s two scores against the Eagles but more importantly kept the ball moving on the ground….
