‘Libraries Rock’ program continues

More than 100 Northumberland County students and adults attended a recent Bright Star Theatre performance of “Happily Ever After.” Performers brought their own spin to Grimm Brothers stories such as Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood.

The Northumberland Public Library, Northumberland Elementary School (NES) and the Northumberland Family YMCA have teamed up to present a Summer Reading Program.

When NES students reach this summer’s goal of 13,751, they will have read a total of 40,000 books since 2016, said children’s librarian Marilyn Smith.

The “Libraries Rock” music-themed programs will continue weekly until August 8 at the library. Read to the Beat story time is 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25.

The YMCA will host a special picnic and pool party beginning at 10:30 a.m. July 27. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
