COLLEGE PARK, MD—Lynn Thomas Hawkins, 66, of College Park, Md., and Lancaster, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2022.

Lynn was born on August 5, 1955, to the late Ernest and Mary Ann Thomas of Lancaster. She was the beloved wife of Les Hawkins, mother to Emily LaPilla, mother-in-law to Mike LaPilla and grandmother to Madeline and Owen LaPilla. Lynn is also survived by her sister, Cynthia Tucker of Lothian, Md.

Lynn received a bachelor’s in art education from Towson University. She pursued graduate work in art history at the University of Maryland, with a focus on woman artists and sculptors.

Lynn taught kindergarten at Holy Redeemer School in College Park for 27 years and received the Archdiocese of Washington’s Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011. She was a talented artist and led the Holy Redeemer crafting group for many years.

She enjoyed spending time at the house her parents built on the western shore of the Corrotoman River. Lynn enjoyed gardening, watching the osprey nest in front of the house and all of the charms of the Northern Neck and its people.

A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. June 11 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in College Park.
