Marilyn J. Reed

IRVINGTON—Marilyn Janis Reed passed on September 26, 2019, in Irvington, surrounded with love by her family.

She leaves her husband Stephen; son Andrew; daughters, Jenny and Amy; son-in-law, Gary McAdam; and granddaughters, Kristen Reed Welf and Sophie Reed Welf.

Marilyn was born Marilyn Janis Reams in Fargo, N.D., on September 18, 1930. She grew up with her mother, Katherine Hazel Reams; brother, Jimmy; and sister, Jeanne in North Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska until attending nurse’s training in Denver, Colo., where she met her future husband, Stephen Reed, who was attending law school at that time. They married on September 12, 1952.

Marilyn and Steve had three children, Andrew, Jenny and Amy. They moved throughout the U.S. over the next 20 years, living in Denver Colorado, Dallas Texas, San Francisco California, Westport Connecticut, Richmond Virginia, Los Angeles California and the Chesapeake Bay.

Marilyn said “YES” to life! She had a wonderful capacity for fun and humor, and a great zest for travel and adventure. Always active, she played tennis, golf, sailed, skied and hiked. She loved to read and learn and was interested in many subjects. She was an amazing cook (..took a few classes from Julia Childs..) and for a while was part of a “Gourmet Club,” often delighting her friends and family with delicious international cuisine.

Marilyn was kind and caring, and interested and concerned about others. She was generous with her time, energy and emotions, living with integrity, listening with sincerity and helping others with true compassion.

Marilyn blessed us as a wonderful mother to her children, wife to her husband, companion to her friends and nurse, nurturer, listener and storyteller to all who sought her company, comfort and help.

She was beautiful inside and out and will be forever loved and missed.
