Mary W. C. Kelley

KILMARNOCK—Mary Wright Caughlan Kelley (Mickey), 88, of Kilmarnock  passed away peacefully after a long, rewarding and happy life, on September 15, 2019, surrounded by her family.

She was born in St. Louis in 1931 to Mittase and David Caughlan. She moved many times but spent most of her life in Demarest, N.J., North Windham, Maine, and Port Washington, N.Y. She graduated from Cornell University with a dual degree in linguistics and geology.

In 1955, she married Dr. Robert Kelley and supported him over his career as a dentist while raising two boys. She and husband Bob retired to Kilmarnock in 1988 and spent many years cruising the waterways of coastal Virginia with friends.

She was an amazing mother, a devoted wife and grandmother, and a wonderful friend to so many. She spent much of her later life volunteering at Seconds Unlimited in Kilmarnock, which helped raise funds for updated equipment at Rappahannock General Hospital.

Survivors include sons, Robert Kelley and David Kelley; daughter-in-law, Erin Kelley; and grandchildren, Connor Kelley, Shannon Kelley, Kristen Kelley and Carolyn Kelley.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Saturday, October 12, at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, 362 Club Drive, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Seconds Unlimited in Kilmarnock, or Virginia German Shepherd Rescue, PO Box 733, Centreville, VA 20122.
