HEATHSVILLE—Martha Ellen Hancock of Heathsville passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021. She was 86.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ray; their children, Roberta Graham (Patrick), Richard (Denise), David (Kathy) and Steven; her sisters, Beverly Horner and Inez Smith; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Dankert and Ruth Dankert.
Marty, as she was known, possessed a voracious appetite for reading—everything from National Geographic to David Baldacci. She was deeply involved in her community, serving as president of the Woman’s Club of Northumberland County and devoted a portion of her time to the Order of the Eastern Star.
Martha was a spirited adventurer, visiting all 50 states and traversing much of Europe. She was also an active member of Fairfields United Methodist Church, where she played an essential role in the choir.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 11, at Fairfields United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
