Mary S. Hicks

IRVINGTON—Mary S. Hicks passed away Monday, October 16, 2017.

She was born the daughter of James Calvin Scott and Bessie Workman Scott on July 19, 1929, in the Tulsa, Okla., area, was educated in Tulsa public schools through high school and attended the University of Tulsa.

In 1980, Mary and her husband, Art Hicks, came to the Northern Neck to live in the Merry Point area on the west branch of the Corrotoman River. In 2004, they moved to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury.

Mary was active in several community organizations including the Historyland Community Workshop, the Lancaster Community Library and then the Westminster-Canterbury Library, the Red Cross, the Yachting Division of the Indian Creek Yachting Association and the Rappahannock Art League.

Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years, Art Hicks; her daughter, Mary Elena Pinkowitz of New York, N.Y.; her granddaughter, Elena Schreiner; and great-granddaughter, Nova Schreiner, of Portland, Ore.

Many loved and admired her. We will miss her.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
