LANCASTER—Mary Susan Courtney, 86, of Lancaster, died on September 4, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn Walker and Howard Thomas Courtney Sr.; and brothers, H.T. Courtney Jr. and Cecil R. Courtney; and nephew, Clayton Courtney.
She is survived by two brothers, Roland W. Courtney (Hilda) of Lancaster and David W. Courtney (Carol) of Sun City, Ariz.; sister-in-law Linda Courtney; nephews and a niece; and dear friends, Ruth J. Ash and Gil Bland.
Sue was a retired vice president of trading with Craigie, Inc., Richmond. She served as president of the Securities Association of Virginia, an organization of investment brokers and security dealers.
She retired in 1985 and moved back to her native Northern Neck where she became involved in community and church activities. She served on the Lancaster County School Board and the vestry of St. Mary’s Whitechapel, and was treasurer of the cemetery fund. She also was employed at Chesapeake Bank from 1991 to 1994 as an investment officer.
There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 9, at Currie Funeral Home and a graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday, September 10, at St. Mary’s Whitechapel.
