Merry Point man remains in custody following shooting incident and chase

LANCASTER—Ernest O’Neil Kelley, 44, of Merry Point was arraigned in district court November 12 on multiple felonies related to a shooting in Weems.

Kelley faces charges of aggravated malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of aggravated malicious wounding, according to Lancaster County Commonwealth’s Attorney Tony Spencer. He is being held without bond and other charges are pending, said Spencer.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Monday, November 11, Kilmarnock Police Department officers and Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a pursuit of Kelley, who was driving a 2004 Grand Marquis, after he had allegedly shot and seriously wounded another man, according to Virginia State Police (VSP) Division 1-Richmond master public information officer Sgt. Jessica Shehan.

Kelley’s house in Merry Point was staked out by deputies who called the VSP tactical team to….
