Mike E. Croxton Sr.

KILMARNOCK—Mike E. Croxton Sr., 88, of Kilmarnock passed away at home with his family by his side on April 4, 2026. He was born October 26, 1937, in Kilmarnock to Beatrice Armstrong Croxton and Willy N. Croxton Sr.

Mike worked on the water since he was big enough to paddle a skiff. He met the love of his life, Alice G. Chance, when her family moved here from Georgia. Her father was a crane operator who helped build the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge. They wed in July 1956. They spent 64 years together, raising a family and building their business, Mike’s Seafood. In the 1970s they had two retail stores—one in Kilmarnock and one in Gloucester. For over 50 years, Mike delivered seafood to Maryland several times a week.

Mike’s favorite places to be were out on his boat, or at his dock, shedding soft crabs. Growing up between the Great Depression and World War II, he learned the value of hard work, and he expected everyone to earn what they got. He was a past member of the Lions Club and Virginia Waterman’s Association.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; his daughter, Vicky Clements; brothers, Winfrey and Willy Jr.; and sisters, Alice Boudreaux, Christine Croxton and Elenore Delano.

He is survived by his son, Mike E. Croxton Jr. (Tammy); daughter, Angela Croxton; and son-in-law, Frankie Clements; grandchildren, H.F. Clements, Heidi Condrey, Luke Clements (Amelia), Nick Clements, Mike Croxton III “Trey” (Stephanie), Timothy Croxton (Ashley), Samantha Lewis (Mark), Brandon Siddall (Annie), Brianna Siddall and Connor Haynie; and 14 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ayden, Alex, Henry, Emma, Ryan, Wynter, Celeste, Grayson, Tristin, Bentley, Lucas, Hailey and Rosalee.

He also is survived by his sister, Hazel Glass; brother-in-law, Ernest Chance (Shirley) of Leland, N.C.; and sister-in-law, Sadie Chance of Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Connie Hudnall, who helped tremendously with his healthcare.

Mike was loved by many, respected by most, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 10, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday.
