FOXWELLS—Mildred Jane George Belfield, 89, of Foxwells passed away peacefully, on April 27, 2026, in Gloucester, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was predeceased by her parents, Herbert Wilmer George and Margaret Jane Crandall George, both of Foxwells, and her loving husband of 64 years Everett Monroe Belfield. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy B. Ferber (Wayne) of Gloucester; granddaughter, Samantha F. Snead (Travis) and her great-granddaughters, Emery Jane Snead and Devin Carol Snead of King William. She is also survived by her childhood friend and dear companion for the last six years, William Fitchett.
Mildred was born and raised in the small community of Foxwells, where she grew up as an only child but with so many close family and friends by her side her whole life. Back in those days, mostly everyone living in the community was related to her on either her Mom’s or Dad’s side of the family and she was blessed in so many ways. She loved her life there and never left her childhood home in Foxwells, where she lived since she was a baby.
Unfortunately, her dad passed away unexpectedly when she was 14 years old, leaving her and her Mom, but the Lord sent her the most amazing guy to watch over them. She met the love of her life when she was 16, Monroe Belfield from Senora, and they were married one week after she turned 18 in February of 1955. They lived a long and beautiful life together. Always together and holding hands, they loved spending time with family and friends, square dancing with The Stepping Stones, and in their retirement years, had a place in Fort Myers, Fla., where they enjoyed the winters socializing with their many friends in that community.
A lifelong member of Maple Grove Baptist Church, Mildred dedicated her life to serving the Lord and her church family in countless ways. For almost 50 years, she faithfully served as the church pianist, sharing her gift of music and bringing comfort and joy to generations of worshippers. Her presence at the piano was a steady and cherished part of church life, and her devotion left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
For her entire career, she worked as a bookkeeper for the McGinnes family in their businesses. Starting at 18, she worked at Virginia Seafoods in Irvington, and once that business closed in the 1980s, she moved to their car dealership in Kilmarnock until she retired.
More than anything, Mildred cherished time spent with her family. She and her beloved husband, Monroe, devoted countless hours to their granddaughter, Samantha, taking great joy in watching her grow and spending quality time with her. Those moments together were among her greatest treasures. She was also very blessed to share that same level of love with her great-granddaughters over the last few years.
Mildred will be remembered for her quiet, steady faith and the way she lived it out day by day. She was someone others could count on—faithful in her commitments, generous with her time, and always willing to serve wherever she was needed. Her life was marked not by grand recognition, but by quiet devotion, kindness and a lasting impact on the people and community around her.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock, with visitation one hour prior. Interment followed at White Stone Baptist Church with a reception immediately following at The Island Church in Foxwells.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Island Church, 4370 Windmill Point Road, White Stone.
