Monday to serve additional 20 years for county jail attack

LANCASTER—Jacob Michael Monday will spend an additional 20 years in prison after being sentenced by Lancaster County Circuit Court Judge R. Michael McKenney to 80 years with 60 suspended as the result of a December 24, 2021, attack on a Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputy at the county jail.

Monday was being held at the jail after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of David LaForge and receiving a 22-year active sentence. Just two weeks later, Lancaster County Commonwealth’s Attorney Anthony Spencer said Monday showed Deputy Eddie Daw a note saying he needed to speak with him in the library because, according to Spencer, Monday knew there were no surveillance cameras there. Having lured him to the library, he then strangled Daw with a length of wire he had previously taken from a ceiling light fixture. Daw was able to reach a dispatch call button and Kilmarnock Police Department officers Richard Thomas and Chelsi Blake, who happened to be at the jail, were able to come to his aid.
